Government has ended the first four months of the year spending a little bit more than revenue mobilized.

According to fiscal data from January to April this year, government ended up spending about 2 billion cedis more than 9.7 billion cedis mobilized in revenue.

However when it comes to expenditure target, government managed to stay within its target, as it spent 11. 7 billion Ghana cedis, a little higher than 11.6 billion cedis it projected to spend.

The deficit was largely influenced by more spending on capital expenditure of 1.9 billion cedis.

On the revenue side, however, government made a lot of strides as it mobilized more than what it’s projected to collect in taxes. The state from January to April got 9.7 billion cedis instead of the 8.7 billion it was expecting.

The good revenue numbers was influenced by strong collections from domestic taxes on goods and services, VAT, income and property.

According to the revised estimates for 2015, government is hoping to spend about 37.6 billion cedis, while on the revenue side it is hoping to mobilize 29.7 billion cedis.
