The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will allocate 10% of oil revenue to develop the Western region if it comes to power, the MP for Takoradi Kobby Otchere Darko Mensah has promised.

Speaking to Starr News' Western regional correspondent, Emmanuel Ohene Gyan, Mensah challenged the oil-rich region to vote the main opposition party into power for this promise to materialise.

The Western regional House of Chiefs has been on the heels of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to reserve 10% of the oil revenue for infrastructural development in the region.

They argued that the region will be at the receiving end of all problems and dangers associated with oil exploration and therefore such allocation will be used to address them. The late President John Evans Attah Mills in a response promised the region will get more than the 10 percent it is asking for.

However, his successor and incumbent John Mahama is yet to comply.

Speaking on the sidelines of the first lectures by the Sekondi-Takoradi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the theme “Developing the Western Region as a growth pole for the economic development of Ghana”, the legislator said the NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo is ready to deliver such demands.

He further promised the NPP will relocate the headquarters of all the oil companies to the region as part of moves to create more jobs.
