Spirit Of Ancestors Has Kept CPP Alive—Samia Nkrumah

The National Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Madam Samia Nkrumah, has said the spirit of the party’s ancestors has kept the party alive to survive the turbulence after the overthrow of the legitimate government of the party in 1966.

She said the party had to persevere in the storm over the years or else it would have been sold out to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

She added that the CPP would never die and would grow stronger.

Madam Nkrumah, who was addressing the Volta Regional delegates conference of the party in Ho last Saturday, said the party would certainly assume power once again to complete the unfinished agenda because it had honest politicians to manage the economy and resources of the nation and that the fight to bring back the CPP into power would be intensified after the regional delegates’ conferences.

She assured delegates that the party would maintain its name even after the proposed merger with the Peoples National Convention (PNC).

The General Secretary of the party, Mr Ivor Greenstreet, asked all candidates to unite after the elections because there was a winner and a loser in every contest.

He said organisational work would start early, especially in the Volta Region, to enable the party to win some parliamentary seats in a territory that was once considered a world bank of the party.

A past regional chairman of the party, Mr Vincent Norgbedzi, said it had not been easy for the party in the region in the past but order and peace was restored, and prevailed under his leadership.

Mr Norgbedzi, lost the chairmanship to his vice, Mr Thomas A.K.M. Ntumy, who polled 121 votes against 55 for the former.

Mr Robert Paul Addo polled 122 votes to beat Mr Emmanuel Kofi Worname with 57 votes to become the regional secretary, whilst Mr Paul Nuwordu polled 127 votes to beat Mr Leonard Tenkorang with 51 votes to become the regional organiser.

Madam Merryland Dogbe won with 88 votes to beat Mr Cooper George Mprah with 54 votes and Fafafe Agbodzi Sewornu with 35 votes to become the youth organiser.

Those who went unopposed were education secretary, Mr Moses E.K. Osei; first vice chairman, Mr Samuel Awiaga; second vice chairman, Mr Albert Dzivor Motty; women organiser, Miss Pamela Ocloo.

In a post-election address, a former presidential candidate of the party, Dr Abu Sakara, said members must be emboldened to propagate pan-Africanism because it was the same concept that had contributed to building great states in America, Europe and Asia.

An elder of the party, Professor Edmund Delle, commended the delegates for the high level of discipline exhibited at the conference.
