JUL 6, 2015 LISTEN

The life of an Emirates Cabin Crew member is one of fun, adventure and self discovery. It involves working to meet the expectation of travelers in all classes at 30,000ft in the air while representing Emirates as ambassadors the world over.

Emirates Cabin Crew hail from six continents and over 135 destinations including Ghana and collectively speak over 55 languages. Emirates currently has 71 Ghanaian crew in our service.

They are ambitious individuals whose varied backgrounds (cultures and professions) inspire their passion for travel and enthusiasm for capturing different cultures and experiences. Being part of Emirates cabin crew comes with its perks. Crew gets the opportunity to live in Dubai and enjoy not only fully-furnished accommodation, but also exclusive discounts on shopping and leisure activities in Dubai.

To date, Emirates has a cabin crew team of over 20,000 which has increased due to the arrival of new aircraft and constant expansion of their routes. Emirates had up to 120 new recruits joining every week and expect to hire another 5,000 crew members this year alone.

It's quite easy to assume that being cabin crew simply requires having a pretty face and being a makeup pro. Being a part of Emirates is a different story. Beyond the glamour, being cabin crew involves constant training and preparation for the unseen; firefighting, emergency medical attention and evacuation are among some of the core training skills that our cabin crew undertake regularly.

Emirates considers the safety of its customers a priority. This is why its cabin crew are taken through intense, real life enactment training to ensure that they are prepared, competent and confident to handle most emergencies that come up during flights. In 2014 alone, Crew Training reported record-breaking attendance with over 33,000 attendees in various training courses (with some crew members attending multiple courses in a year) ranging from Safety & Emergency Procedures, Medical Training, Service and Image etc. Emirates invested more than US$6 million on medical equipment on board its aircraft and about 33,430 hours in the training of crew for first-aid and emergency medical care.
