The parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party for the July 7 by-election, Thomas Duanab Wuni, has been described by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a man possessing enormous talent who is going help develop the Talensi constituency and also improve the living conditions of his people.

At a mammoth rally to end official campaigning of the party ahead of Tuesday’s by-election, Nana Akufo-Addo had this to say of the NPP’s candidate:

“He is a good, honest and competent man, and will be a good representative of Talensi in parliament. To show what kind of a man he is, the people who contested him have all come here to give evidence about this man. This is the same man who has brought all of us here from Accra. Alan Kyerematen, Hon. Francis Addai Nimo, Yaw Osafo Maafo, all the NPP Regional Chairmen, and all important personalities in the NPP are here to say to the people of Talensi, vote for Doanab on Tuesday, the 7th of July.”

The best way the people of Talensi can show honour to the Paramount Chief, Tongo Raana Kolbilsong Namalteng, known in private life as Robert Mosore, who was the immediate past NPP Member of Parliament for Talensi, according to Nana Akufo-Addo, will be to vote for Thomas Duanab.

“Robert Mosore was our MP, and today is your Paramount Chief. It is for you to show him that you appreciated the work that he did for you as MP for Talensi, if you vote for Thomas Duanab,” he said.

It will be recalled that the Talensi seat had been held by the NDC for 20 years, until the 2012 parliamentary election when the NPP’s candidate, Robert Mosore, beat the NDC’s John Tia Akologu by 2,261 votes.

Robert Mosore, in the NPP’s 2014 presidential primary, was also Nana Akufo-Addo’s Campaign Manager for the Upper East Region.

“You can, therefore, understand that if God-willing, next year, you honour me with your votes, and I become President, you will have a very powerful Paramount Chief in Talensi, who can help you.”

The NPP flagbearer encouraged the electorate in Talensi to turn out in their numbers and vote on Tuesday.

“Not only must you vote, but make sure you protect our votes and make sure that your vote counts. Nobody is to feel intimidated, it is our right to vote like it was our right to have this rally and they wanted to deny us our right. If we stand firm, nobody can deny us our right,” he said.

In concluding, Nana Akufo-Addo told the gathering that “we must make sure that the vote is protected and I am confident that, in these three days that I have been in Talensi, God-willing, the next Member of Parliament of Talensi is here with us right now. We have a man of talent who is going to help develop this area in the person of Thomas Duanab Wuni.”
