Residents of the Ashanti regional capital have started expressing concern about the cost of accessing the newly opened recreational park; the Rattray park.

Many first timers who tried to visit the place on the ocassion of Ghana’s republic day celebration were taken aback when they realised they had to pay 10 cedis each as adults and 5 cedis for each of their kids.

Many are unhappy with the development and contend that the place was built with the taxpayer’s money and hence should be affordable and not be a preserve of the rich.

“You pay 10 cedis just to enter and then buy your own drink and every other thing you want to take”, a disappointed

resident told rawgist.com.

Spokesperson for the Ashanti regional Coordinating Council, Godwin Nyame in an interview with Kumasi based Fox fm in a reaction stated that the amount being charged was not as expensive as residents express.

He explains that there are a lot more to enjoy other than drinks and food which visitors have to buy citing internet facilities, live band music and several others. “Besides, the 10 cedis charge is only on weekends and special occasions. On

ordinary days, adults pay 5 cedis and kids 2 cedis”.

He contends the money is required to maintain the place to the satisfaction of visitors who patronise the place.

The President, a few days ago opened the new recreational facility for use during a working visit to Kumasi.
