At least twenty people have sustained severe injuries after the Bonsu Canopy Walkway, in the Eastern Region, collapsed Wednesday.

The victims are said to have climed the walkway last around 5.30pm when authorities had closed, reports Eastern Region Correspondent, Kofi Siaw.

Eastern Region Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Ransford Kwakye explains the twenty yet-to-identified persons got onto the canopy walk probably to extend their July 1 holiday celebrations.

16 of the injured persons are currently on admission at the Tafo Government Hospital. Three have been sent to the Hawa Memorial Hospital – all in the Eastern Region.

One victim said to be in critical condition is at the intensive care unit of the Koforidua Government Hospital.
