NDC New York Elects New Executives

On June 27th, 2015 the New York Branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in U.S.A elected new executives to oversee the affairs of the branch for the next four years. The branch is one of the largest and most vibrant of branches in North America, and as such it plays an important role in coordinating the activities of other branches in North America.

The election of the new executives took place on June 27, 2015 in the Bronx, New York. The election was conducted by the NDC USA Electoral Committee headed by Mr. Seth Ato Essel who doubles as the National Vice Chairman of NDC-USA. Members of the NDC-USA executive branch traveled from other states to New York to observe the election process and the swearing in of the executives elected. Prominent among the external observers were a senior Member of NDC and representative of the Ghana’s Ambassador to United States, Mr. Jojo Bruce -Quansah, the chairman of NDC-USA- Nii Ashiboi Armah, the Secretary of NDC-USA- Charles Kpodjo, and Women Organizer of NDC-USA, Janet Wilson. Also present at the meeting were Alhaji Abass Adamu, outgoing Chairman of NDC New York and Vice Chairman of NDC USA, as well as Mr. Osborne Sam, NDC USA Vice Chairman. The event was attended by more than one hundred members.

The election of qualified candidates was characterized by intensive campaign by all candidates. Each candidate vying for substantive position presented a manifesto to the massive electorate. Candidates outlined visions and plans on how to encourage members of the branch to work harder towards making His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama retains power in 2016.

Members and sympathizers of the party thronged to 590 Grandconcourse meeting venue of the NDC-New York to celebrate this milestone and to show their support and solidarity for the party.

Voting and counting of ballot papers generally was peaceful and transparent due to the professionalism of the Electoral Committee chairman and his team. The following officers were elected and sworn into office by the chairman of NDC-USA, Hon. Nii Ashiboi Armah.

8. RabiatuYakubu- Women organiser
9. Rukayatu Abubakar- communication officer
10. TawiahOwusu- Deputy Organiser.
In his victory speech, the chairman elect, Moses Klu Mensah thanked all his supporters for their massive turnout, members of electoral committee for their extraordinary work, and the representative of the ambassador for coming all the way from Washington DC to observe the election. According to him, “now that the election is over, It is important for us to come together as one family, and work hard to ensure that the “Elephant” remains in the bush. Even as we celebrate our victory, we must remind ourselves of the reasons why we were voted into office”

The incoming assured and thanked all members of the branch for their participation in the elections and their love for NDC, he stated that he will be meeting with members to discuss how all can work together to move the party’s agenda forward especially during the 2016 Campaign. He also stated that although the NPP campaign machinery was trying to campaign of what they perceive as the negatives of President Mahama, he knew that NDC will prevail at the election given the progress the Mahama government was bringing to bear on the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians.

The newly elected executives asked for God’s protection and guidance upon the president of the republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama and his team to continue to execute developmental projects that will uplift the living conditions of all Ghanaians. They also assured the national executives of National Democratic Congress(NDC) in Accra that they are ready to contribute their quota towards a OneTouch victory for H.E, John Dramani Mahama.
