The Ghana Bar Association Ashanti Region chapter today observed the 33rd Martyrs day and memorial service for the three murdered high court judges on June 30, 1982.

The service was marked at the St. Georges church in Kumasi, in memory of the high court judges Mr. Justice Fred POKU Sarkodie, Mrs. Justice Cecilia Koranteng Addow and Mr. Justice Agyei Agyapong murdered whiles in service.

In attendance were members of the Ghana Bar Association of the Ashanti region, His Lordship Justice Gibson Adzagli, supervising high court judge, Her Ladyship Justice Angelina MENSAH Homiah, and Lawyer Yaw Acheamong Boafo President G.B.A Ashanti, among others.

The three judges, and a retired Army Officer was abducted at night during the curfew hours of June 30, 1982. The cruel, savage and this heartless act occurred at the Budase Military Range in the Accra plains.

Their bodies were then doused with petrol and set on fire. However, divine intervention. through raindroos that night quench the burning bodies. When discover, the bodies had deteriorated into a state of decomposition.

Mr. Yaw Acheampong Boafo the President of G.B.A Ashanti, speaking said, their departed colleagues died in the line of duty to their nation, to their countrymen and to the rule of law, hence, the commemoration.

"The special investigation board made a number of findings leading to the prosecution of Joachim Amartey Kwei, a member of PNDC, L/Cpls Samuel Amedeka, Samuel Micheal Senya, Johnny Dzandu, an ex-soldier and Tekpor also an ex soldier". He stated.

He added that, "during the triall L/Cpl Amedeka, Dzandu and Tekpor escaped in a jailbreak. Amedeka fled the country and Johnny Dzandu and Tekpor were captured to rejoin the trial".

The bar and bench have mourned the death of these martyrs of the rule of law and called for reconciliation.

The president stated that, "we have forgiven the wrong doers for their evil deeds, but will still remember these martyrs and continue celebrating them".

Mr. Boafi, however, charged colleague lawyers to exhibit good morals in their services.
