June 26, 2015: Global Media Alliance (GMA) in partnership with Celebrity Golf Club will organise the Republic Day Charity Golf Tournament on July 4, 2015 at Sakumono, Tema in support victims of June 3floods and fire disaster in Accra.

The tournament which will also honor Ghana’s republic day, will bring together professional and amateur golfers from Ghana and the international community alike.

Being a charity game, proceeds from the event will then be donated towards flood relief efforts to aid to victims of the aforementioned disaster. Head of Events at GMA, Mr. Appiah David, said the event is a positive deviation from previous year’s editions since it will be focused on raising much needed funds to support disaster victims. “Wednesday June 3, 2015 has gone down as one of the darkest days in the history of Ghana as floods hit Accra amidst a fuel station explosion, resulting in the death and injury of at least 200 people.”

“As a socially responsible company, GMA deems it a priority to put the needs of the affected victims first. We are excited to raise funds towards these efforts and we are grateful to our partners for joining us,” Mr. Appiah added.

Commenting on this special edition of the tournament, Captain of Celebrity Golf Club, Capt. Francis AkwasiOpoku appealed to corporate organizations and other benevolent individuals and groups to support the event through sponsorship and other donations in order to provide victims with supplies and relief items while promoting the sports in Ghana.

This is the second edition of the Republic Day Golf Tournament and this special charity edition promises to be a remarkable one. The event is being supported by Distell Company, Huawei, Coca Cola Bottling Company, De-United Foods, Koko King, Voltic Ghana, Starlite and the Namibian High Commission.
