Minister Launches Africa Air Expo
30.06.2015 LISTEN

Dzifa Ativor, Minister of Transport, will launch Africa's first-ever global exhibition and conference at a grand ceremony in Accra this morning.

The launch, to be attended by major aviation players in Ghana and sponsors, will also witness a re-inauguration of the Local Organizing Committee to plan the event.

Dubbed 'Africa Air Expo,' the event, organized by the Government of Ghana, in partnership with the International Centre of Excellence of Abu Dhabi, will be held from 12-14 October 2016 at the Kotoka International Airport. It was originally scheduled to be held in 2015 but had to be postponed because of the Ebola outbreak.

Industry watchers believe that the Expo, envisaged to be the largest exhibition for general, business and commercial aviation in Africa, could not have been more ideally timed, as Ghana continues its third quest for a national flag carrier.

With the growth rate in African aviation around 6.3 percent as against Ghana's 9.2 percent, the Expo will be an ideal platform to discover the latest technologies and network with key decision-makers in an industry that contributes US$67.8 billion to GDP and is responsible for 6.7 million jobs globally.

One of the aims of the Africa Air Expo is to highlight the importance of infrastructure within aviation, including procurements, supplies, solutions and technology.

International aviation transports 67 million passengers across the world with 256 airlines generating 762,000 flights.
