NDC New EC boss can't rig 2016 elections for NDC - Asiedu Nketia
JUN 29, 2015 LISTEN

The General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) says suggestions that newly appointed head of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Charlotte Osei, will supervise the stealing of next year's vote for the governing party are 'laughable.'

Johnson Asiedu Nketia stated said the new EC Boss though appointed by President John Mahama cannot rig the election for NDC "if the results don’t favour us".

“Charlotte Osei can’t massage election figures in our favour because she does not work in a vacuum,” he stated on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday.

The appointment of the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Charlotte Osei as new Electoral Commissioner (EC) has generated a lot of controversy across the country.

Many, including members the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) have argued that her affiliation with the NDC puts her in a compromised position which they claim might affect her work in 2016.

But General Mosquito, as the NDC chief scribe is popularly called, described the argument as “childish”.

He said even if the claim of her being a member of the NDC is anything to go by, Charlotte Osei is a very professional lady who will not allow her political affiliation to cloud her judgment.

“Charlotte Osei is one out of the seven Chairpersons at the EC so when the election figures show the opposition New Patriotic Party has won, there is nothing she can do,” he added.

Asiedu Nketia urged critics to look beyond the partisan politics and look at the professional competence of the new EC boss and give her the moral support to succeed.
