An Open Letter To Mrs Charlotte Osei

I am glad to have heard that you have been appointed the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana by the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama to replace Dr Kojo Afari Gyan. Congratulations for being called to occupy that very noble office of ours.

With your credentials, expertise and experience mentioned in your CV, almost all the Ghanaian citizenry are falling comfortable with your appointment for your frankness, courage and seriousness in the administration of your services. You know approximately what awaits you in your new mission at the Electoral Commission. You have come at a time when trust and confidence is lower than expected for a very important organizing and decision making body like the Electoral Commission.

A lot of reforms and back ground works are in waiting to be implemented whiles we are only about 18 months into the next general elections of 2016. Of all these reforms or amendments, there is one which is very dear to my heart. It is called (ROPAB) Representation of the People Amendment Bill, which was passed the 27^th of February 2006 in the sovereign Parliament of the Republic of Ghana.

This law was passed to give rights for those of us Ghanaians resident in the Diaspora to register and vote in our various countries of residence like any other Ghanaian national. Our right to vote has been violated by the Electoral Commission and the Government of Ghana for 11years now with the pretext that there is no money, even though we are the Third Foreign Exchange Earners of our great nation.

Tensions are high and are getting higher among the “burgers” who feels cheated or sidelined by the defiance of the Ghanaian authorities for depriving us from voting. Some have hinted going to court to seek redress and the interpretation of the law at the appropriate time.

Finally, I pray that the Lord would stengthen you to administer your work diligently in truth, courage and peace, while I plead with you and your office to help us acquire our voting rights restored.
