A 25-year-old student of Takoradi Ploytechnic, Samuel Suleman, has been remanded, into prison custody by the Tarkwa circuit court for being in possession with dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) without authority.

The accused person’s plea was not taken and he will re-appear before the court on July 13.

Presenting facts of the case in court, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the presiding judge, Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante that the complainants are members of the Damang neighborhood volunteer team.

He narrated to the court that, on June 22, around 12:30 am, the complainants were on their usual routine patrol duty within the Damang Township.

On reaching the forecourt of the Damang branch of Fiaseman Rural bank, Detective Amponsah said the volunteer team saw the accused person with a bag containing a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp wrapped in black polythene bags.

The Prosecutor said Suleman was arrested and handed over to the police together with the substance found on him for investigation.

He said efforts are been made to forward the exhibit to the Police Forensic Science Crime Laboratory for examination and report.
