The Appointment Committee of Parliament has recommended for approval two new nominees for the Supreme Court.

Justice Yaw Apau, an Appeals Court Judge and Gabriel Pwamang, a lawyer and former General Secretary of the Peoples National Convention were both nominated to the Supreme Court by president John Mahama in consultation with both the Judicial Council and the Council State.

The nominations were in line with the provisions of Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.

They were vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament two weeks ago during which a number of issues were explored.

According to Joy FM's Parliamentary correspondent Elton John Brobbey, the committee is satisfied with the responses by the two nominees and has recommended their appointment.

The recommendation notwithstanding, the committee has also confirmed receiving two petitions against Mr Pwamang.

The committee has however indicated that the petitioners would have to go to court to challenge Gabriel Pwamang on the matters raised.

The committee said the issues raised by the petitioners are beyond Parliament.

It is not clear yet what the issues are or who are behind the petition.
