Northern Friends Of Education Tackles WAEC's Incompetence
24.06.2015 LISTEN

ON THE RECENT MASSIVE LEAKAGE SCANDAL THAT ROCKED THIS YEARS BECE (2015) AND THE SUBSEQUENT CANCELLATION OF THE PAPERS-IBRAHIM M AWAL (PRESIDENT OF NORFRED)

The Northern friends of education and development (NORFRED),wishes to express its disappointments and dismay at the conduct of stakeholders of this year’s BECE visa vie the unprecedented massive leakages of some of their papers and the subsequent punishment of this innocent young ones through cancellation of those papers.

We think that asking these innocent children to carry the cross for the negligence and inenebtitude of somebody or groups of persons in authority (WAEC) is unfair and unjust. In addition, the time table for the re-sit is unrealistic considering the marathon nature of it, thus five papers within two days. A clear case of the old adage which states ‘The Africa Child is only to be seen but not heard’, a manifestation of ‘I have the power and the authority’ but to us in NORFRED, we think that this power should have rather been used to bring down some heads in WAEC.

SIDE EFFECTS OF THE god’s (WAEC) ACTS

In the first place, it puts the reputation and credibility of the certificates being churned out by WACE at stake, both in the country and the external world at the large.

In addition, the victims in this case the candidates have had to suffer and endure both psychological and emotional trauma by virtue of this decision and which when not managed well can result to a permanent effect like refusal to go for the resist and subsequent withdrawal or dropping out of school.

This decision of the gods equally have a greater stress and financial implication on parents, guidance and pupils alike especially those who live in the hinter lands and have to travel for as far as three hundred kilometers to their exam centers and in worse case, those students who even take care of themselves. The tentacles of this decisions of the gods extends be young the immediate surroundings of the victims to their siblings in the senior high schools because they went on a week’s break so that our candidates could use their infrastructure and facilities. Now that we have an extension, what becomes their fate?

When in advance senior high schools in the three Northern regions already suffered a gargantuan lost of instructional time due to the lack of or late payment of their feeding grants when their colleagues elsewhere were in the classroom learning.

RECOMMENDATIONS
1. We wish to ask the state security machinery to work with the effect of lightening to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous criminal act are punished severely, sinceit’s becoming one too many.

2. Since a drowning man will clutch at anything, desperate better-grade-seekers will always go the extra mile, therefore routine upgrading of the security system of WAEC would serve us better.

3. Any official of WAEC who owns a school should be fired because the temptation is always high.

4. Norfred also wish to ask all guidance and counseling coordinators in our Regional,District, municipal and metropolitan Education offices to move to the Junior High schools and work on the psychic of these pupils or we risk an unprecedented failure or dropout rate in our history. Parents and teachers can also assist in this regards.

5. We also, ask that the timetable for the resist ought to be reviewed to at least a third day if only we don’t want to create the impression that we are punishing thechildren and therefore compelling them to develop a detest\ antidote for any form of exams.

We wish to conclude by reminding all Ghanaians that we owe it a duty, ensuring that we bring up the next generation in the best possible ways.

Thank you.
