Cape Coast’s suburban Abura, arguably one of the fastest growing communities in the Cape Coast North Constituency in the central region, is to benefit from a modern day police station.

The construction of the station which is in two phases, is been financed by the Member of Parliament for the area, Lawyer Ebow Barton Oduro from his Social Intentions Fund.

Consequently, a ground breaking ceremony has been performed by the MP for the start of the first phase of the project comprising offices for the Station Officer, Motor Traffic Transport Department (MTTD) and the CID.

It will also include Exhibit room, Male and Female cells as well as toilet and bath.

The project is expected to begin at the end of this month by the contractor, Walker Enterprise, a local civil engineering firmbased in Cape Coast.

It is envisaged that the long awaited police station in the area would be completed in six months’ time.

Lawyer Oduro, who is also the first deputy speaker of parliament, noted that the growth of every community comes with adverse effect and Abura was no exception.

He said the recent killing at Eyifuah Estate, a suburb of Abura and the raging chieftaincy dispute at Ebubonkor that led to the death of one person were very unfortunate.

He stressed that the above incidence illustrate a clear manifestation that there was an urgent need for a police post in the area and therefore deemed the ground breaking ceremony a dream come through.

Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr Ransford Moses Ninson indicated that, Abura was vastly expanding with infrastructural development such as schools and hospitals.

Mr Ninson continued that the citing of financial institutions in Abura and also the expansion of the market among other things have necessitated the crucial need for a police station in the area.

He therefore called on NGOs, Cooperate bodies and other philanthropist to assist the police service with cars, accommodation and other logistics to enable the men in uniform to give off their best.

The Chief of Abura, Nana Kwodwo Addai II on behalf of his subjects thanked the MP for his vision and prayed that the gods in the area will guide and protect the contractor to execute the project smoothly.

When completed, the facility would to be expected to curb the fast growing trend of vices in the Cape Coast North Constituency.

The second phase of the project that will consist of residential accommodation for officers and men of the police service would commence after the successful completion of the first phase.

Public Workers’ Department (PWD) is the project consultant.
