Minister Plays 'Hide And Seek' On Youth Policy

An advertised question on why the Ministry of Youth and Sports has rescheduled the implementation of the much-touted National Youth Policy under the current government from 2014 to 2017 could not be answered by the Minister for the second time.

The Minority, which expressed concern about the development on Thursday, could not fathom why the Minister was playing 'hide and seek' game with Parliament.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu-Amankwah, in whose name the question stands, told DAILY GUIDE that as a member of the Committee on Youth and Sports he could not understand why the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government had failed to implement a major policy like the National Youth Policy, which is to provide the road map for hope to be restored to the teeming youth of the country.

'This lukewarm attitude by the government concerning this important youth policy means the government does not care about the youth of this country,' the MP for Manhyia North told DAILY GUIDE.

When the question was called, the Majority leader, Alban Bagbin told the speaker that it was unfortunate that the Minister could not provide the answer to parliament, explaining that the minister could not do so because most of the directors at the ministry had been reassigned and new ones brought to replace them.

“Mr Speaker, the directors there are new in their jobs and will need sometime to help the minister provide the answer so I want to plead with parliament to give the Minister up to the end of next week to come and answer the question,' he said.

The deputy minority leader, Dominic Nitiwul was not happy at the turn of events, saying the Minister Dr Mustapha Ahmed who is a long-standing member of House, must know that his attitude to the House is unacceptable.

He therefore implored the speaker to let the Minister quickly respond to that important question.
