Nestle Ghana Limited and the 1997 Business Communication (BCOM) class of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and old students of Ghana Senior Secondary School have donated to the victims of the June 3 Accra flood and fire disaster.

The two made the donation Monday to support Joy FM’s relief campaign to support victims of the devastating floods and fire which claimed about 150 lives.

Nestle Ghana donated 10 boxes of Nescafe 3 in 1 Cream, 10 boxes of Milo 20gram, 10 trays of Ideal Milk and seven boxes of Nido.

The items, according to May Gloria Andoh, Corporate Communications Officer at Nestle Ghana, are worth over GHc10,000.

The 1997 Business Communication class of UCC donated mattresses, water, medicines and a cash donation totally GHc5,000.

Reuben Djopong, leader of the group speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com said the donation was their contribution to easing the pain of the affected.

“When this twin disaster came, a lady raised the issue that ‘let’s do something for our brothers and sisters’ and we picked it up. We raised so much money and we decided to give our widow's might to our surviving brothers and sisters to alleviate the suffering they are going through,” he explained.

Mr Djopong used the opportunity to make a passionate appeal to other school groups and Ghanaians to emulate their gesture.

“We are taking this opportunity to encourage other universities, second cycle institutions and old students to also do something for our people,” he urged.

Kwadwo Ampofo (DJ Black), Head of Music at Joy FM, who received both donations on behalf of the station, thanked them for the gesture.

On Saturday old students of GHANASS also gave 1,500 cedis to support the victims.
