Five Ghanaians Excel As The American College Season Comes To An End
16.06.2015 LISTEN

Five Ghanaian athletes represented their schools this past weekend at the apex competition of American Universities and Colleges, the NCAA Division I Championships.

John Ampomah threw his second-furthest throw in the javelin to place a second to the returning champion on his home turf, as his university hosted the national championship.

In finishing 4th, Nadia Eke flew to the furthest ever outdoor jump in history by a Ghanaian, and was robbed of the national record by winds that were greater than that allowable for record purposes.

Atsu Nyamadi broke the national record in the men's decathlon to finish 9th at the NCAA championships.

The other two athletes--Emmanuel Dasor and Alex Amankwah--were at the championships to represent their schools in relay competition.

Dasor run a yeoman's third leg for Western Kentucky University in the 4x100m relay, while half-miler Alex Amankwah turned in a stellar 45-second split in his third-leg run for the University of Alabama's 4x400m relay team.

This brings to an end the collegiate season of 2015. What a wonderful ride our athletes have given us. The GAA applauds them and their coaches for the beautiful memories.

The GAA would also like to express its gratitude to its benefactors, fans, and friends for following us throughout the season. You can continue to do so via the GAA's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AthleticsGhana?ref=hl
