The Ministry of Finance has authorised the Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD) to suspend the salaries of employees who do not have social security numbers.

The ministry, in a statement signed by the Chief Director, Major ( Rtd ) M. S. Tara, said the salaries of the affected employees could only be restored after thorough investigations had been conducted.

It would be recalled that CAGD issued press statements on January 6, 2015 and a reminder on February 19, 2015 requesting employees to provide their social security information for their records to be updated on the mechanized payroll system.

It also indicated that the salaries of employees, who failed to provide their social security numbers by the end of March, 2015 would be suspended permanently.

Reports from the CAGD indicated that some employees submitted their social security information and their records were updated on the mechanised payroll.

The Ministry said the names of employees who failed to submit their social security information to their respective Personnel Processing Sections (PPSs) before the deadline of Friday, 12th June, 2015, would be deleted from the payroll.
