Presbyterian Church Of Ghana Commissions 25 Ministerial Probationers

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) on Sunday commissioned 25 Ministerial probationers who have completed their studies with the Trinity Theological Seminary.

Ministerial probationers pursued different degree programmes at the Theology at the Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra

Right Reverend Professor Emmanuel Martey, Moderator of the General Assembly of PCG, who administered the Ministerial Vows, urged the probationers to adhere to the principles of Christ to enable them to stand as His true ambassadors.

Preaching the sermon, Rev Dr Godwin Nii Noi Odonkor, Chairperson, Ga Presbytery urged the Ministerial probationers to learn to identify themselves with the practice of the Church as enshrined in its Constitution.

Rev Dr Odonkor also reminded them that challenges would arise but there will also be the need to manage their congregations well and also to interact with people.

He further charged them to be faithful to the Lord who had called them into the ministry and not try to be “worldly smart” by acquiring worldly things, thereby leaving the core business of their calling.

Rev Odonkor admonished the newly commissioned ministers to walk in the holiness of God and seek his face at all times. He added that without hilliness no one will please God.

He said post-modern culture was fundamentally hostile to the Gospel, because "it is hostile to any spiritual intervention in our lives," and this demand that the church prepares pastors who know how to think theologically and pastorally to face such "intellectual hostility".

The Rev Dr Odonkor reminded the newly commissioned ministers to speak the truth always, irrespective of what may happen to them, and indicated that was the only way society could distinguish between the true messengers of God and the false messengers.

Touching on the recent floods in Accra, Rev Dr Odonkor said it was unfortunate that leaders always promise to find solutions to the problem, but such promises never came to fruition.

He urged members to pray to God to help the country to overcome the current challenges.

Rev Andrew Shardow one of the newly commissioned ministers, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, expressed gratitude to the Church for its effort and support given them throughout the training period.

He said he and his colleagues were aware of the state of affairs of the Church and pledged to work to "rebuild the broken walls of families, the church and country".

He asked members to pray for them to ensure the success of their ministries.
