Afoko And Agyepong Must First Be Cleared

You don't have to take in any huge chunk of his bunk-talk before you figure out which NPP faction Mr. Agbesi Nutsu is in cahoots with. He calls himself a member of the National Democratic Congress' Communications Team, but it is quite obvious that Mr. Nutsu is a logical dead-wood. I am not even concerned about his lunatic and crass ultimatum to the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party to unite Ghana's largest political party or be prepared to be carped for what this rag-tag communicationist terms as Nana Akufo-Addo's leadership deficit (See "Nana Addo Given 3-Day Ultimatum To Unite NPP" Adomonline.com/ Ghanaweb.com 6/3/15).

First of all, Mr. Nutsu has no standing in the New Patriotic Party and so, at best, his is the call of a pesky gadfly. Still, he is quaintly predictable because he has yet to fully appreciate the widly known and acknowledged fact that the New Patriotic Party is a party of law and order. Presently, the problem facing Messrs. Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong regards the extent of their involvement in the acid-dousing assassination of the Upper-East's Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party. Messrs. Afoko and Agyepong are, respectively, National Chairman and General-Secretary of the NPP. While police investigation of the brutal murder of Mr. Adams Mahama is still ongoing, the two topmost administrators of the NPP do not deserve the right and/or privilege of public endorsement, either politically or morally, from Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

For not only would such a public appearance with or gesture towards the two suspected masterminds behind the brutal assassination of Mr. Adams Mahama seriously undermine police investigations, it would even more significantly scandalize the sense of justice of the average Ghanaian citizen and eligible voter. I am also not certain that Nana Akufo-Addo made the right judgment call when he called for the two men to be allowed to officially resume duties at party headquarters. The proper thing, of course, would be for Messrs. Afoko and Agyepong to be first cleared by police investigators of any involvement or wrongdoing in the death of Mr. Adams Mahama before being allowed to resume duties at the NPP's headquarters. Obviously, this simple and all-too-commonsensical approach to justice and civilized behavioral conduct is too sublime and enlightened for Mr. Nutsu to appreciate.

We must also bear in mind the fact that seven out of ten NPP Regional Executive Committees have passed a resounding vote-of-no-confidence on the two men. I firmly believe that Akufo-Addo erred under pressure in vetoing the overwhelming-majority decision of the NPP-RECs to revoke the electoral mandates of Messrs. Afoko and Agyepong. And I am quite certain that at the appropriate time, the proper and necessary correctives would be effected. Ultimately, unity of the kind being demanded by many a levelheaded and well-meaning and responsible Ghanaian citizens can only occur at the psychological and institutional levels, not merely by staging pretentious public appearances.

The two men must publicly apologize for their incontrovertible involvement in the events and activities leading to the brutal death of Mr. Adams Mahama. So far, what Messrs. Afoko and Agyepong have done is to lamely defend their flagrantly irresponsible and untenable actions, almost as if all that they need to do, in order to atone for their possibly criminal misbehavior, is to either attempt to demonize the slain man, in the case of Mr. Agyepong, or smugly lead the NPP to an electoral victory in 2016.
