Acid Suspect Grabbed

Another suspect in the fatal acid attack on the late Adams Mahama has been arrested and brought down to Accra to assist in the ongoing investigations.

Alhaji Musa is said to be the man who went round looking for acid to buy for the operation that ended the life of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

DAILY GUIDE has learnt that Alhaji Musa is being held in the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) cells in Accra as investigations and the search for the suspect on the run, Asabke Alangdi, continue.

Since the fatal attack on the NPP regional party chairman, detectives from the CID headquarters have been shuttling between Accra and Bolgatanga in an ongoing investigation.

A number of arrests have so far been made but after the exhaustion of preliminary investigation routines, some of them have been released.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the Upper West Regional police had arrested six other suspects besides the prime suspect, Gregory Afoko, brother of NPP National Chairman, Paul Afoko. Gregory is now standing trial at an Accra Central Magistrate Court for murder.

Some of the suspects arrested were named as Jacob Haruna aka Big Zero, Ayine Ayumbire and Musah Issah.

Gregory Afoko was the first to be arrested and brought down to Accra and for now the most prized suspect in detention, having made his first appearance in an Accra magistrate court to reappear on 9th June, 2015.

It has been learnt that the suspect, who spots a telltale sore suspected to have been sustained from a burn, has received attention at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra.

The continuous keeping of his motorbike at the Bolgatanga Police Station has prompted questions about whether as an exhibit, it should not have been brought down to Accra by now.

With four lawyers on his side, the case is set to attract massive attention by Ghanaians, given its criminal and political dimensions.

Paul Afoko, whose name was mentioned in the charge sheet as being the brother of the suspect, had not been invited yet by the police for interrogation.

According to the charge sheet, Gregory and Alangdi mobilised some youth to form a group with the aim to protect Paul Afoko and other party executives perceived to be against the bid of Nana Akufo-Addo, standard bearer of the NPP, and had a series of meetings before allegedly attacking Adams with acid.

DAILY GUIDE has gathered also that Asabke Alangdi, who is said to have suffered some facial acid burns, is finding it difficult to return to the country after taking refuge across the border, possibly in Burkina Faso or even Ivory Coast.

Interested parties in Bolga and beyond are combing the Upper East Region to lay hands on the suspect.

Observers of the development think that a ransom should have been placed on his head by now as this could encourage many to join the search for the 'acid man', as headline writers prefer to refer to him.
