The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary primaries will not be postponed, the party's Upper East Regional Executive, Edward Awuni has indicated.

'The NPP Upper East Regional Secretariat, yesterday had a meeting to deliberate on the preparation towards our parliamentary primaries come 13th of this month and at the meeting it was clear that there was no postponement to that effect…'

Awuni said. About 30 out of 275 constituencies earlier petitioned the National Executive Council (NEC) for a postponement, following the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama.

Some key groups such as the Forum for former NPP Members of Parliament among others also pushed for a postponement, however some parliamentary aspirants kicked against the proposal, saying they had spent so much money on the upcoming polls.

Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Awuni clarified that the primaries will not be called off and revealed that the regional executives are even holding meetings to 'plan towards the upcoming primaries.'

'…we are now preparing towards [primaries] and the preparations are in several folds. The venues of the various constituencies where the voting will take place, then also transportation of delegates to the ground then we also have security because there is the need of provision of security at the place, then also the feeding of the delegates,' he said.

Pusiga and Talensi primaries on hold  Mr. Awuni also added that parliamentary primaries in Pusiga and Talensi will come off later due to some unresolved challenges.

'As far as this parliamentary primaries is concerned, Pusiga and Talensi are on hold because we have not had any nominations from Talensi in the same way we have not had nominations from Pusiga so for now we have to finish with this one then we attend to that later.'
