Housing Ministry to hold a symposium with Shelter Afrique

Accra, May 30, GNA - Forty four African governments would converge in Accra to deliberate on a common path to help develop affordable housing for rent from June 1- June 5 at the Movenpic Ambassador Hotel, in Accra.

Mr Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, who made this known at the weekend, told journalists that it has been a success story since Ghana joined Shelter Afrique in 2011.

He said Shelter Afrique is the only pan- African financial institution that exclusively supports the development of housing and real estate sector in Africa.

He mentioned that, Shelter Afrique has since 2012 approved of an investment to the tune of 44,000 dollars to support the real estate in Ghana.

'Government has since demonstrated keen interest in ensuring that the good people of Ghana have decent, adequate and affordable housing for themselves, 'he added.

He said, government is determine to regulate the housing industry, hence the recent launch of the national housing policy by the Ministry, which recommends the establishment of a Housing Authority and a Housing fund to support the industry.

'As government we are determine to increase collaboration with captains in the mortgage businesses including Banks such as HFC, Stanbic, Fidelity and Ghana Home Loans to work out modalities that will best suit the citizenry,' he said.

He entreated the public to note of the upcoming general meeting and symposium as it would showcase programmes and projects being undertaken home and abroad.
