Heritage Ladies educate pupil on museum

Accra, May 30, GNA - The Ladies Association of Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, has appealed to government to support the Board with funding to expand its infrastructure developments.

Madam Naana Ocran, President of the Association said the Museum holds an integral part of the society and efforts need to be done to improve on its patronage.

Madam Ocran, said this at an event organised by the Association to commemorate the International Museum Day on the theme: 'Museum for a sustainable society,' in Accra.

The event was used to interact with pupils from the school for the Deaf and Dumb from Adjei Kojo a suburb of Accra.

The occasion was to create awareness on the museum as an important institution for national development

She said the Association also known as the Heritage Ladies believe that it is time to include children with special needs in programmes on heritage and culture.

She said every year; May 18, has been declared as the International Museum Day to highlight the role of museum as an educative and vital community institution.

She said as part of the programme, pupils would be visiting the gallery of the National Museum, where they would be touring themes of the museum namely Ethnography, Archaeology and Arts.

She envisaged that the pupils would not only learn about Ghana's material cultural heritage but would also help increase museum patronage by educating their colleagues about its educative recreational roles.

Dr Zagba Narh Oyortey, Executive Director, Ghana Museums and Monuments Board commended the leadership of the association for their efforts to promote the patronage and use of the national museum.
