30.05.2015 LISTEN
By Nana Yaw Koffo

The Voice Gh is a youth group which seeks to address social, political and legal issues affecting Ghanaians across the country. The cause was conceived in the mind of Miss Adelaide Yiriyelleh but was only started at the University when she met people like herself who shared the passion to speak on all issues that directly and indirectly affect the younger generation.

The mission is to serve as a bridge between the government and the citizens and to promote the preservation and dynamism of culture. Since its inception THE VOICE GH has taken up several projects actively involving the victims of the outcomes of those situations. The latest one being:

THE ‘HELP A CHILD READ’ PROJECT
This project was started as a result of the decline in the quality of education of schools in the slums and as an initiative to help improve the quality of literacy amongst the students in the selected areas. The project which is now in its second year has a new dimension which is the introduction of the street library. Killing two birds with one stone; the project seeks to develop a reading habit among the students and also to encourage volunteering among the youth. The members of THE VOICE GH from the 1st of June to 5th June 2015 will be in Nandom, and other rural communities in the upper west region of Ghana where it was identified that teaching and learning is at a declining rate. A week-long project to help teach pupils of the upper primary of the school how to read and learn to help improve their command of the English language. The street libraries stocked with books will be donated to participating schools and communities. Other stationery items will be given to students who partake and win the various competitions.

The leadership of THE VOICE GH still requires support on the projects to help improve the quality of reading and learning of the pupils in other for them to contribute their quota to the development of our nation Ghana. Support can come in the form of books, volunteers and even finance to make the most of the opportunities identified and maximize reach as well.
