Politics We Must Respect Nana Addo's Statement - Kwame Pianim
MAY 29, 2015 LISTEN

A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Pianim has charged the rank and file of the party to respect the directives given by the flagbearer to help put the party back on track.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo has sent a stern warning to party executives to cease the internal wrangling within the party.

'The finger pointing, the name calling, the insults, the lies, the denigrating of past and current leaders must stop,' he said. According to Mr Pianim, Nana Akufo-Addo is the leader of the party, therefore persons who will act contrary to his orders in this time of crisis are 'really not members of the party.'

There have been rising tensions within the party after its Upper East Regional chairman, Adam Mahama was killed in an acid attack. Some leaders of the party in the various regions have petition the Council of Elders to impress on the National Chairman and the General Secretary to resign from their positions.

Those making this call say the two national executives have sown seeds of discord between members which subsequently led to the murder the Mahama.

There has been endless media war between members of the party but Nana Addo at a press briefing on Friday called for a truce between all feuding factions.

He warned that he will under no circumstance tolerate and condone chaos since the party must present a united front in order to win the 2016 elections.

Speaking to Citi News moments after Nana Addo's address, Kwame Pianim commended the party's flagbearer for taking charge of the party.

'I think it is very positive and it is a type of proactive and positive leadership we have been encouraging Nana to take so we are very grateful.'

The one-time presidential candidate aspirant of the NPP appealed to all regional chairmen to take a cue from Nana Addo and calm tempers within their respective regions.

'I would like to add my voice to Nana's in calling upon the regional chairmen to cease fire; we should all get together, have a moment of silence to mourn the death of our brother and to leave the security services to do their work without confusing them because prima farce evidence is not the full fact,' he advised.

According to him, it will be beneficial to the NPP if they allow the security agencies to do their investigations and come out with the full facts concerning the murder of Adam Mahama.

Kwame Painim also urged party members to spare a thought for National Chairman, Paul Afoko whose brother has been charged with the murder of Adam Mahama because he is obviously 'going through some family anguish so we should spare a thought for him also.'

'But all of us, the most important thing is to rally behind Nana Akufo-Addo to get him elected and it's just not for Nana Akufo-Addo but for the nation because a strong opposition party also helps the governing party to make sure that they are doing the best possible because there is an alternative. It's also good for the party to get united,' he explained.
