MMDAs urged to work hard to achieve targets

Agogo (Ash), May 28, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr. Peter Anarfi-Mensah, has rallied Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to work assiduously to achieve set targets.

He said they should endeavor to surmount challenges by harnessing all available resources to achieve their objectives to enhance the welfare of the people.

Mr Anarfi-Mensah was addressing a debut meeting with technocrats and departmental heads of the Asante Akim North District Assembly at Agogo, as part of his one-day familiarization tour to the area since he assumed office this month.

The Regional Minister, who used the occasion to interact with the 'Operation Cow Leg Police/Military patrol team in the area, also held discussions with chiefs and people in the traditional area.

Mr Anarfi-Mensah ,who takes oversight responsibilities as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area told the core staffers that they were there to serve the people and must therefore live up to expectation to help the people to improve their living conditions.

He urged them to eschew laziness, and embrace punctuality and hard work, which were crucial for them to scale up productivity to help develop the District, carved out of Asante-Akim District some three years ago.

Mr. Anarfi-Mensah encouraged the workers of the Assembly to forge good relationships with the chiefs and the people and discharge their duties with humility.

Conversely, he called on the chiefs and the people to understand the Assembly concept and cooperate with the staff to move the district forward.

Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, Omanhene of Agogo Traditional Area, in a message read for him, welcomed the Minister and appealed to government to provide a permanent Chief Executive for the District.

He appealed to the government to cede part of the forest reserve in the area to make room for more physical developments as the township was sprawling.

The chief called for the rehabilitation of arterial roads in the township as well as feeder roads linking the town to food productions areas.
