NITA Director General Wins ICT Industry Personality of the Year Award

Mr. William Tevie, Director General of National Information Technology has received the 2015 ICT Industry Personality Award at the 5th Ghana Telecom Awards held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra on Friday, May 22, 2015. This year’s event was on the theme,”Celebrating Excellence in the ICT Industry.”

In a citation read in his honour, Mr. Tevie is said to have led National IT Agency to embark on one of the largest ICT projects in the history of Ghana - the E-Government project. The project has shown a tremendous development in the ICT landscape has enabled infrastructure provision to state agencies to facilitate communications system in both the public and private sectors. In addition, the e-services and Ghana Electronic Payment Platform under the same project has made it possible for a number of government services to be transacted online. The Eastern corridor fiber-optic cable which was recently inaugurated and constructed by NITA under the leadership of Mr. Tevie will also contribute enormously to the growth of telecom infrastructure in Ghana.

About NITA
The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) was established by Act 771 and passed by the Parliament of Ghana in December, 2008 and is the Government Agency responsible for the implementation of e-Government. NITA is the ICT implementation arm of the Ministry of Communications and is tasked with the objectives of regulating the provision of information communications technology, ensuring the provision of quality information communications technology, promoting standards of efficiency in ICT and ensuring high quality of ICT services.

Essentially, NITA’s responsibilities include the following:

  • Executing the third component of the eGhana project
  • Ensuring the integration of ICT into government business processes, to achieve greater efficiency and effective service delivery to citizens
  • Ensuring significant cost reduction in the provision and maintenance of ICT infrastructure and services by leveraging economies of scale (Shared ICT Services)
  • Ensuring accessibility and convenience of Government services by leveraging ICTs
  • Ensuring the implementation and enforcement of the provisions of the Electronic Transactions Act 2008
  • Implementing and adoption of Digital Signature technology by Government.
