The Value Of John Mahama’s Kola Nut And The NPP Mafia

Feature Article The Value Of John Mahamas Kola Nut And The NPP Mafia
MAY 28, 2015 LISTEN

In the book “The Gods are not to blame” written by Ola Rotimi. There is a proverb that says “Kola nut lasts long in the mouth of those who value it” I recall vividly those days in the village when my grandma used to send me on errands to buy kola nut for her. On several occasions, she would ask me to chew some of the kola nuts which I couldn’t chew due to its bitterness.

But surprisingly, she always chewed it with joy and I always thought she had sugar hidden in her mouth but upon coming across this proverb by Ola Rotimi, I got to know why I couldn’t chew the Kola nut. So indeed, Kola nut will always last long in the mouth of those who value it.

President John Mahama’s administration seems to face some of the toughest challenges in the history of Ghana’s democratic dispensation and one does not need a first degree honors in Sociology and Psychology to know this.A majority of the Ghanaian populace is feeling uneasy with the conditions under the John Mahama’s led administration but surprisingly there isa section that sees nothing wrong with Mahama’s administration and ready to retain him in power on every occasion. Whether Mahama’s administration is the best or worst ever, it all depends on you. In this vein I want to ask, if John Mahama was to be a kola nut, for how long would he have lasted in your mouth?

Frankly speaking, there is no way to truth, truth is just the way, and when you are told the truth and you admit it, it sets you free. The truth is that the NPP as an opposition party which is supposed to serve as an alternative to the section of Ghanaians who seems to be disappointed with the NDC and John Mahama’s government is rather doing so many diabolical things that will scare away many people from the part. It is very unfortunate that an opposition party which is supposed to be attractive to the floating voters is now characterized with repugnant and half-baked issues. The major hefty problem of the NPP is the lack of principles and the hierarchical topsy-turvies among the leaders of the party.

The leaders of the party do not have obeisance for one another and they resort to the media to outburst their internal quandaries to the general public. I was very nauseated to listen to a tape by Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, in the said tape; he said “The NPP is not ready for power. The NPP is made up fools and the fools in are too many. They have book knowledge but lack home knowledge” These were the words of an NPP MP used to describe his own political party.

One may argue that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong is known for making such lousy utterances and so we should ignore him, but the question is, should we completely ignore the crocodile when it comes out to tell us that the whale is dead? This and many other utterances of Hon Kennedy Agyapong and other leaders of the NPP are scooping out the crisis in the NPP. Notwithstanding this, the death of the Upper East NPP regional chairman by the allege NPP party supporters has cause a tsunami in the party now.

It is not making the party attractive for the floating voters and even members of the NPP. And I will like to ask that if crocodiles eat their own eggs, what will they not do to the flesh of a frog? If the NPP is treating their own members in this manner even in opposition, what will they not do to the ordinary Ghanaian who didn’t vote for them when they win power?

The NPP has sowed an evil seed and it has germinated from their toes and they must deal with the evil seed. An evil seed of disorder, arrogance and lack of principles among leaders of the party. If they indeed want to win power then they must do everything possible to ventilate their internal grievances.

The NPP must be united and prove to Ghanaians that it is the right alternative to the NDC. My humble plea to the smaller parties is that, they should also unite and form one political party. There are many Ghanaians who are fed up with the NPP and NDC but will still stick to them because they have no viable alternative. The formation of a third strong party will eventually help to beef up our democracy.

When I alarmingly analyze what is happening in both NPP and NDC especially with the actions of the youth, I could smell danger in our future politics. We are imperceptibly becoming more interested in the coziness of our political parties than Ghana. We all have to be careful not to lose sight of the antelope for a squirrel, Ghana is our antelope and we must pursue her collectively. Long live our political parties, long live Ghana. “We are not children of a lesser god”
