New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Effutu is urging the party’s Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong to heed to calls on them to step aside following the brouhaha in the party.

According to Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the posture adopted by the two party executives could cause an implosion in the party.

There is mounting pressure on Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong to resign their positions following the assassination of the NPP Upper East Regional Chairman, Adams Mahama.

Nine out of the ten regional executives of NPP have unanimously called for the resignation of the two.

This has caused the party’s Council of Elders to also write to the Chairman and General Secretary to step aside.

But Kwabena Agyepong has stated unequivocally that he will not resign a position he earned with his sweat.

On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Afenyo Markins said both the Chairman and General Secretary are not acting politically correct.

He explained that though calls on them to step aside is not a constitutional decision, it is politically wise.

The Effutu MP noted that given the tension in the party, the only way to calm tempers and focus in unity for victory 2016 is for them [Afoko, Agyepong] stepping aside.

“Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong must control their egos and corporate with the other colleagues. Let’s do way with the unnecessary suspicion,” he bemoaned.

Afenyo Markins said it is very regrettable that in spite of the learned people in the NPP, “our enriched knowledge is creating problems in the party”.

He urged party members to be circumspect in their utterances against party leaders especially the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo in order not to allow their opponents milk it.

“Let’s unite and help realize the NPP dream of winning the 2016 general elections,” he added.
