Gomoa Senior Technical wins AU Day quiz competition

Apam (C/R), May 27, GNA - Gomoa Senior Technical High School at Gomoa Dawurampong has won the special quiz competition to mark the Africa Union Day Celebration in the Gomoa West District at Apam.

Apam Senior High School was second with 34 points while Mozano Senior High and Mozano College of Music placed third and fourth, respectively.

The Gomoa West District Oversight Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) organized the competition and awarded prizes and certificates to all the participating schools.

Dr Mark Nii Lamptey, the chairman of the APRM, in a speech to mark the occasion, said Ghana was the first country in African to be Peer reviewed in 2006, and also the first African country to establish a District Oversight Committee.

He said there was relative peace in Ghana and the country was doing quite well in governance and political stability.

The Secretary of the Committee, Mr Hayford Edu Quaye, stated that the work of the Committee was purely voluntary and commended the Gomoa District Assembly for its financial assistance to the committee.

The APRM was initiated in 2002 and established in 2003 by the African Union in the framework of the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD), information on its website has indicated.

Its objectives are basically to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that lead to political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development and accelerated sub-regional and continental economic integration.

This is being done through experience sharing and reinforcement of successful and best practices, including identifying deficiencies and assessment of requirements for capacity building
