Who Wants To Lose Election 2016?
26.05.2015 LISTEN

In about 17 months, a few days and some hours, history will be recorded In Ghana. The uniqueness comes not in its name but it definitely is one event that citizens in every corner of Ghana are looking to, with expectations much heavier than what happens every 4 years in the country

Why is it going to be different?
First of all,on December 7, 2012, the electoral commission of Ghana under the leadership of Dr. KwadwoAfariGyan, organized a general election which was reported by observers and international media as generally free, fair and transparent except for few technical hitches with biometric verification machines. This was not the case in local media and amongst political parties. For those who have short memories, Google Ghana election 2012 for details.

The collated results were announced by the chairman of the EC but the actual declaration of winners was done by Justice William Atuguba at the Supreme Court of Ghana. Not all can still tell the recommendations made by the jury but one lesson every party took homewas to be extra vigilant because “elections are won at the polling station”. My curiosity keeps peaking as we gradually step into 2016. So I ask the political parties with intentions of contesting the election 2016-are you fighting to win at the polling station or to lose at the Supreme Court?

Secondly, AfariGyanis gone!!! So what next? Despite his track record in organizing elections in Ghana and beyond, his long presence as the EC chair has made him appear to be too ordinary to the ordinary Ghanaian. All praise to Mr.Age who has caught the professor of elections by surprise.A new man is coming and eyebrows are wide open to see the man in him that will carry Ghana to victory.

The part that makes my mind itch is that the electionwill provide answers to TWOquestions that will be written in the history books of Ghana- (1) willHis Excellency John DramaniMahama become the first one-term President in the democratic fourth republic of Ghana like his friend Goodluck whom luck actually eluded? (2) WillNana Adu-DankwaAkufoAduever be President of Ghana? With our individual biases, we all have wishful answers to these questions but can we entrust our wishes to electorates??

There is no doubt that we are in a hurry to go to the polls for different motives; some want Dumsor to stop, some want the cedi to appreciate, some want inflation rate to stabilize, some want “allowa” whiles in school, some hate to pay utility bills, some want to chop MP, some hope to get appointed, some want to see someone lose, some want news to write, some want to ride in new campaign cars and bikes, some want to secure their positions and loot more,some have no reasonat all, and others do not care.

Whiles we are bracing up for this wonderful and “life changing” event, thesupposedsaviours we all look up to, seem to be lost in the fight for their personal salvation. In other words, they are rather strategically pushing victory towards their opponents. There is obviously one reason why they are doing this; Ghanaians have short memories!!!! Therefore they have all the time to deal with personal squabbles so they will suddenly resurface in our brains in November 2016.

Tofiakwa!!! how can you call me a prostitute and expect me to forget? Who wants to sleep in this darkness forever? And who even told you I enjoy laying off my workers? How about my job which I am not getting?Right from the time His Excellency diagnosed himself of dead-goat syndrome and failed to treat his camp members of loose-mouth syndrome,until when he declared Ghanaian entrepreneurs as not being smart enough to survive under hisDumsor, I had a hint he was fed up with the seat and was now fighting with all his might and power to lose election 2016.In a case like this, one can only liken it to a game of soccer where the NPP is awarded a clean penalty kick in the 90th minute. What a wooow!! This one de3r, hy3 ma y3n k). But what do we see, hear and feel? If anyone can read the mind ofthe referee, they should tell me if he is not pulling out the red card with immediate effect. Na waaoo!!

Could it be true that the NPP is under a spell? (As confessed by honourable Mathew Nyindam) and if that is the case, how will our future look like, being under this spell? Ghana is limited in terms of options now! Sorry to any small party or independent candidate who may stumble upon this but truth be told; Ghanaians don’t, and will for the next few decades neither vote for policies nor for competence but for their most revered political parties. What apity!! Where is our educational institutions that are supposed to guideus through mental liberation?

I leave a few questions for whoever finds answers to them;

-What caused the victory of NDC in 2012? Was it the performance of the party between 2008 -2012? Was it good Policies? Demonstrable competence? Or just the ability to win elections?

-What was the ditch that bruised the NPP? Was it past performance? Was it policies? Or Identity crises?

-My final question is; so who among the two are actually fighting to loose election 2016 and probably hold Ghana to a ransom?

Opinions are like noses, you just saw mine.
