Adams' Family Happy With NPP's Promise To Widow

Spokesperson for the family of the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Adams Mahama, has told DAILY GUIDE that though the death of their kinsman had created a vacuum, Nana Akufo-Addo's assurance that the party would support his wife and children had brought a lot of relief to their hearts.

According to Muazu Issaka, the family was relieved by the assurance and hoped the party would fulfill its promise.

Addressing hundreds of mourners and NPP faithful at the burial service of the late Adams Mahama in Bolgatanga, Nana Akufo-Addo, the 2016 flagbearer of the NPP, assured the widow and the children of a fatherly care and support in their development, and should therefore not see the death of the late Adams Mahama as the end of their education and development. The late Adams Mahama left behind a wife and five children.

'To the wife and children,…the premature departure of Adams Mahama doesn't mean that you are destitute. You are part of a family that is going to stand beside you and make sure that you are not in want or in need. Those that will have to be educated will be supported to go through like the late Adams Mahama would have done,' Nana Addo assured.

He declared Adams Mahama, a Martyr of the New Patriotic Party whose sacrifice and commitment to the cause and success of the party is worth emulating and promoting across the country.

'Adams Mahama is a martyr of the NP; he died working for the party. This is a time in our party that we should all stand together and ensure that whatever differences that are between us, (and there will be differences, we are not robots; we are human beings), that whatever differences there are between us, we find a way to resolve these differences like civilized people do, by argument and not by force.' Nana Addo entreated.

Nana Addo has directed that a national Islamic prayer should be organized at the national headquarters of the New Patriotic Party to mark one week of his death and also in recognition of his meritorious work at the regional and national levels of the party.

Speaking on behalf of the nine other regional chairmen, the Volta Regional Chairman, Peter Amewu, said the space Adams Mahama had left would be difficult to fill, considering his passion and commitment to the work of the party.

'Adams was a brave man and would do everything possible to achieve what he desires for the party. He brought up the idea of friendship among regional chairmen of this party. We are united as bhairmen due to the role Adams Mahama played in bringing us together as friends,' Peter Amewu added.

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said the late Upper East Regional Chairman, had a magnetizing effect that pulled people together for a just cause in his region and in the New Patriotic Party; and that whoever was behind his killing had dealt a heavy blow not only to the NPP, but to the democracy of the country.

'This crime is a heinous one and the perpetrators should be traced at all cost and brought before the law; and never again should this thing happen in our politics as a party and as a nation.'

A family elder and former Bolgatanga MCE under the NPP government, Rockson Bukari, said the family would be counting on the party's leadership to work closely with the police to deliver justice to it (family).

He called on the party's leadership to also find ways of flushing out 'moles who had been planted in the NPP to keep dividing it.'
