Kasoa (CR), May 23, GNA - Construction works on the Western By-Pass at Kasoa would be completed in September 2016 to help ease the traffic volume on that stretch of road.

Works on that road, which is being undertaken by Queriuz Galvao, a Brazillian construction company and Joshob Construction of Ghana was started in June 2014.

Addressing the press after an inspection of the site over the weekend, Mr Isaac Adjei-Mensah, the Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, said the construction of the Western By-Pass project would present an alternative solution to the road transport challenges when completed.

'It starts from Old Barrier at Bortianor Junction on the Accra-Cape Coast road and cuts through Kokrobite, Tuba, Nyanyano, Kakraba to Sapato Junction on the Accra Cape Coast road, which is beyond Kasoa', he explained.

He said the total length of the road is 24km, of which 17km fell within the Ga South Municipality and the remaining within the Agona East district in the Central Region.

The Minister commended the contractors for the work done so far and pledged Government's continuous support for the project.

He said the construction of the road along that stretch would enable pineapple cultivators in the area to easily transport their goods to the urban areas.

Mr Adjei-Mensah said the road, when fixed, would help ease the traffic congestion to and from Kasoa and the Central Business Districts (CBD) in Accra.

Mr Abass Awolu, the Director, Urban Roads, said the road which was about 60 per cent complete, involves the construction of culverts and drains, the laying of sub -base and base course, construction of bridges as well as road construction.

He said the construction work, which was of great importance to the Ministry, would also ensure that all the projects were linked to each other to ensure quick movement for those who use it.

The Minister and his team of experts also paid a courtesy call on Nai Kwaku Osardua 1, Chief of Bawjiase in the Agona West District to inform him of the commencement of renovation works on the Topiase (a suburb within Bawjiase) to Agona Swedru road.
