Accra, May 23, GNA - The Women in Project Management Africa (WiPMA), has commended the First Lady, Dr. Mrs Lordina Mahama, for her staunch humanitarian work for vulnerable women and women in Ghana.

WiPMA's commendation is contained in a statement to congratulate the first lady on the award of an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by the Fordham University in the United States of America (USA).

WiPMA said it acknowledged the first lady's work done over the years, and thus found the award and recognition as most appropriate and very inspiring to women involved in Project Management across the continent.

The statement, signed by Mrs Rhoda E. Appiah, National Organiser of WiPMA, said Mrs Mahama has distinguished herself as a mother of the nation; an advocate for women empowerment, and an ambassador of the UNAIDS Global Plan on the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission.

'Through her hard work and commitment to development, the chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area have installed her as the Sompahemaa, and a role model to women.

'In view of this, we join the nation in celebrating this honorary award with the belief that she is one of the leading programmes and projects leaders in Africa and the world,' they stated.

WiPMA is a Pan-African non-profit professional network aimed at empowering and developing the capacities of women in project, change, programme and portfolio management.

It presents a powerful alliance to address the key issues affecting women managers today, and works to provide opportunities for its members to further develop their potentials in today's dynamic environment.
