Accra, May 23, GNA - Microsoft Corporation, an American technology company and Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide a data monitor system.

It would be a management system, which would assist decision makers, especially the AMA to track activities in the city of Accra.

Mr Sayed Hashish, General Manager of the Public Sector Microsoft Middle East and Africa office said the company wishes to build unparalleled relationship with Africa.

He said Africa has vast potentials for information communication technology hence Microsoft partnership with AMA to make Accra the centre of excellence among the countries of the Global Alliance of Mayors.

He said the company would leverage the Microsoft clouds to help build citinet that would transfer telemedicine and telehealth knowledge while being committed to the training of the youth in information technology.

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, expressed happiness for the Microsoft partnership.

'We are excited at the opportunity to continue to work with our brothers and sisters in Africa and the Diaspora to examine the plight of cities in socio-economic growth and development,' he said.

The occasion was used to launch the 4th World Summit of Mayors and Leaders from Africa and of African Descent which would take place from June 1 to June 3 in Accra.

It is on the theme: 'Sustainable human development and economic empowerment for Africa and the Diaspora,' and it would be under the auspices of President John Dramani Mahama and Dr Vanderpuije.

Launching, Dr Djibril Diallo, Senior Adviser to the Executive Director of UNAIDS said 300 mayors and representatives from public and private sectors from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the United States are expected at the summit.
