RIP Adams Mahama
23.05.2015 LISTEN

For Adams Mahama the day is over and death the end of all mortals has eclipsed him. All mortals, it is said in Islam, shall taste death but once; and that is exactly what has befallen this gentleman. Everybody is posting good testimonials about him; and in Islam, the faith to which he belongs, such positive remarks about the dead impact immensely on the quality of their hereafter.

Adams Mahama was a good man who respected everybody who crossed his path. His service to the late former Vice President Aliu Mahama when he was part of this ephemeral world was one noted by many as without blemish and characterised by sincere loyalty.

As one of the closest persons to the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama, he played a critical role when the former Vice President died, unknowing at the time that his days were numbered.

He came to the world, served his family, country and his Creator and is returning to his original form—earth—according to the will of God. A good father that he was, he supported his children to study hard so in the future they would not be found wanting. All of them, as he wished when he lived, have excelled at their various levels of education.

Let them not shed too much tears but to resolve to work hard, reach the highest notch in education as much as they can and to live the exemplary life which their father lived, the reason for which Bolgatanga is today hosting people from all walks of life to show their last respect.

Today his remains would be lowered to mother earth—the end of all flesh. After all, to dust would we all return.

The tears will flow once more as it did when news about his death filtered across the country. Such tears mitigate the pain bottled in us and so we cannot stop them. Even as we shed them or hold them back, let us remember to pray that Almighty Allah, who destined the path that Adams Mahama would follow, shall accept him in Paradise.

In a previous commentary we asked that mourners and indeed his party colleagues should not politicise the murder of the former Chairman because doing so would be reducing such a heinous crime to triviality.

Crime is crime and should be treated as such by all means. Let all of us resist the temptation by some loose talkers to politicise the murder of Adams Mahama. This way the Police would be able to carry out their work to the fullest.

It is our demand that given the status of this case, the police should not suffer any undue interference from any quarter as they do their work. Any attempt at doing that would provide fodder for the political cynics and those in the stable of the murderer.

One great honour that can be done the deceased by his colleagues in the political party that he belongs is work towards strengthening it to form the next government. Adams Mahama, may Allah grant you eternal rest in paradise.
