IGP Calls For Hard Work From Cops

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan has charged police personnel to continue to work hard to help combat crime to promote peace in the country.

The police chief said he was impressed with the commitment of police personnel in the country, notably the Ashanti region, where the crime rate had reduced during the past year.

The IGP, however, warned the police against complacency and stressed the need for them to always remain alert to foil the tactics of criminals.

Mr. Alhassan was speaking at the official inauguration of the ultra-modern Divisional Police Headquarters at Ejisu in the Ashanti region on Thursday.

He stressed the need for the public and police to collaborate to combat crime, insisting that ensuring security these days requires the effort of all.

The Ejisuhene, Oguakuro Afranie Okesse IV, freely gave out a parcel of land, which the Ejisu Municipality used in the construction of the edifice with funding from Urban Development Grant.

Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye gave the assurance that the police would not relent in their efforts to flush out criminals to promote law and order in the Ashanti region.

He disclosed that 22 police posts, 11 police stations, and 10 police districts had been created in the Ashanti region over the past year to boost security.

DCOP Boakye, also known as 'Commander One,' sternly warned residents of Ejisu who are becoming lawless in recent times to stay out of trouble.

He said the police would apprehend people that would break the law in the Ashanti region irrespective of their political, tribal, religious affiliations.

Oguakuro Afranie Okesse IV, the Ejisuhene, said he is a development oriented traditional leader so he would continually strive to develop his area despite opposition by certain people.

Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah said the security situation in the Ashanti region had improved but warned the police against complacency.

Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, said the municipality is building a complex close to the divisional headquarters to help accommodate the police in the area.

The MCE appealed to the IGP to transfer some police personnel in the municipality who are not helping to maintain law and order.
