All parliamentary aspirants of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) across the country have been urged to suspend their campaign for at least 24 hours to honour the memory of the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Adams Mahama, who died on Thursday.

Ghana's former Ambassador to Libya and Nigeria, George Kumi, who made the call yesterday, told DAILY GUIDE that he had suspended his campaign in the Sunyani East constituency for 24 hours following the death of the chairman, saying 'I will like to suggest that all parliamentary aspirants should do same.'

It would be recalled that Adams Mahama was bathed with acid Wednesday night by two unknown assailants whilst driving home and died on Thursday morning.

Ambassador Kumi, who expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased chairman and the entire party, called on the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to bring the perpetrators to book.

The former envoy, who is contesting the Sunyani East Constituency seat, described Adams Mahama as a 'great man' and 'political asset and called on the party's hierarchy to draw lessons from such regrettable incident.

'The death of Adams Mahama should be an awakening call to the rank and file of the party that peace, unity and absolute security for all members is paramount to the NPP coming into government,' he stated, adding 'A divided house would always have intruders to cause harm.'
