Accra, May 22, GNA - The Rotary Club of Ho, has launched the first edition of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Programme within the newly created Rotary International District 9102.

The programme, which was dubbed: 'Rotary Club of Ho - Youth and Leadership Awards 2015,' was on the theme 'Preparing the Next Generation for Excellence.'

The objective of the programme was to develop leadership skills and character of participants, expose them to a variety of issues and people and provide the opportunity for them to meet active community leaders.

Others include enable beneficiaries to learn valuable information and career skills, publicly recognise the many young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders and enable them to build friendships, as well as create memories that would last a lifetime.

Crucial topics such as Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Career Development, Goal Setting and Information Technology were treated.

Reverend Dr Cyril Fayose, President of the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, in his presentation encouraged the participants to put themselves to test by picking up leadership positions and establish a programme for their clubs to help develop the leadership skills in them.

Dr George Afeti, Executive Secretary of the National Inspectorate Board of the Ministry of Education of Ghana spoke on Career Development.

Susana Delali Kudjoe, President Elect of Ho Rotary Club and an Entrepreneur, shared her experiences on the difficulty in starting a new venture and advised the participants to be resilient and have the 'never giving up' attitude if they want to be successful.

Samuel Owusu Darko, a onetime winner for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) who spoke on Information Technology, said technology makes life easy and provides many opportunities.

He said efforts should be made to employ technology in all aspects of life to make time for non-technological issues.

The President of Ho Rotary Club, Rockson Kwesi Dogbegah, Founder and Chair of Berock Ventures Limited, a Chartered Building Construction firm in Ghana and Africa spoke on Goal Setting.

Mr Dogbegah said for a goal to be effective, it has to specific, measurable, achievable, and realistic and time bound.

He advised the participants to be careful in sharing their goals with people and believe in their goals, stay committed and work hard.

The programme, which was designed for the newly chartered Rotaract and Interact Clubs, as well as the Old Rotaract Clubs focused on participants with budding leadership ability and a commitment to community service.

It was intended to help them discover their potential and develop the skills needed to be good leaders in the community, career, and everyday life.

The participating clubs include Rotaract Club of Ho, Rotaract Club of Ho Polytechnic, Rotaract Club of University of Health and Allied Sciences, and Provisional Rotaract Club of Evangelical Presbyterian University College.

Rotaractors from other Rotaract Clubs from Accra, Takoradi, Sunyani, Tema and Lome, Togo also attended the programme.

As part of the programme, newly Chartered Rotaract and Interact Clubs were inaugurated.

They include University of Health and Allied Sciences, Mawuko Girls Senior High School, Sonrise Senior High School and Awudome Senior High School.

Mr Dogebgah pledged to charter five interact clubs, two rotaract clubs and one rotary club before his tenure of office comes to an end.

He charged all Rotarians to help in sustaining the clubs through regular engagement with the newly formed clubs.

Mr Dogbegah announced the incoming celebration of the Rotary Education and Sanitation Awards slated for June 12 in Ho.
