Half-Assini, May 21, GNA - The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the Half-Assini Senior High School (SHS), has provided the School with an ultra-modern 10-seater water closet lavatory.

The project replaces a seven-seater KVIP being used by girls of the school, which is now unhealthy and too expensive to maintain.

The project, costing 37,578 Ghana Cedis, was inaugurated and handed over to the school authorities by Very Reverend Samuel N.Appiah of the Saint Andrews Methodist Church at Half-Assini..

Speaking at the ceremony, the PTA Chairman, Mr.Francis Lokpo, said PTAs were major stakeholders in the country's quality education delivery, with good health and sanitary practices as its key components.

He said apart from complementing government's efforts in providing academic needs and curriculum materials for schools in the country, PTAs also supported government in health and sanitary challenges of schools.

Mr Lokpo said parents would be the great losers in terms of financial and human resources, in the event of the outbreak of diseases in schools, a situation, he said which needed to be avoided, hence the provision of the lavatory.

He thanked the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Wing Commander Francis Kabenlah Anaman, for supporting the project with a 100,000-litre capacity Polytank, and appealed to the school authorities for the proper maintenance of the facility.

The Assistant Headmaster (Academic) of the School, Mr Elijah E.Nkrumah, on behalf of the Headmaster, Mr.Kodwo Erdjah, Board of Governors,Teaching and non-teaching staff of the school, expressed their profound gratitude to the PTA for the facility.

He said it would go a long way to ease pressure on the existing lavatory used by the girls at the school.

Ms. Grace Ntoni, Assistant Director of Education of Jomoro, advised the beneficiaries of the facility to make proper use of it.

Ms.Esther Nkrumah, Senior Girls Prefect of the School, on behalf of her colleagues, assured the authorities of the judicious use of the facility to prolong its lifespan.
