Chairman of Parliament’s Subsidiary Legislation Committee Osei Bonsu Amoah says he is embarrassed at the conduct of the Election Commission after it was forced to suspend a voter registration exercise

He has also questioned the quality of leadership at the Commission.

“Everything the EC is required to do the EC has flouted [the law]. You speak to them and most of them don’t seem to know what is going on. So who gives such instructions and what advice do they take?” he said on Multi TV’s AM Show Tuesday.

The Electoral Commission was forced to suspend a continuous voter registration exercise two days ago after political parties condemned the EC for not consulting them.

The parties felt they were taken by surprise for an exercise that require party agents to monitor.

The E.C says the suspension will enable the independent body consult stakeholders before announcing a new date.

Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan is heading out in June.
Weighing in on the matter Osei Bonsu Amoah who is also Member of Parliament for Akwapim South suggested that the flouting of regulations was becoming one too many.

He cited with shock and dismay after the Supreme Court, on Friday February 27, 2015, directed the E.C to suspend local governance election because the E.C failed to follow due process.

According to the NPP politician, it is becoming difficult to defend the commission because the EC is exhausting the support it has from a “few”.

“The fact that Ghanaians appear to have forgiven them when they made us lose so much during the district assembly elections doesn’t mean things can go on this way”

He revealed, “lot of people are expressing disquiet about the way they do their things”.

Ghana's Electoral Comission chair leaves office in June after 22 years of service. Six names have popped up as candidates to fill the vacancy.
