The Ashanti Regional Police have arrested a man for impersonation. 36-year-old Fiifi Medici is currently in the grips of the police for posing as a military officer with the ranking of major at the Vienna City Club in Kumasi.

A twenty Ghana cedi note (GH¢20.00) suspected to be counterfeit was also found on him.

According to the suspect, the uniform was given to him by his uncle who was a retired military officer.

The police have begun investigation into the matter to ascertain whether or not the suspect had used the uniform to commit any crime.

They therefore called on the general public or persons who had fallen victim to the said suspect to assist them in their investigations.

At a press briefing, Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku, warned police would deal with persons who paraded themselves in military and uniforms of other security services to commit crime.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command admitted they recorded similar cases of impersonation in the past – a situation they were making efforts to halt.

“Police is particular about people parading themselves in service uniform because people use them to perpetrate crime and such activities are attributed to these agencies,” he emphasized.

He said the suspect was being charged with the offence of possessing fake currency.

In a separate operation, the police also arrested eight Fulani men out of whom six were remanded for suspected robbery.

The police confirmed that the six, including a minor, were identified by victims as robbers.

They were Bella Imoro (23), Abubakari Adams (41), Dauda Abdullahi (25), Imoro Mohammed (38) and Abdul Rashid (35).

The suspects are expected to reappear before the Juabeng Circuit Court on May, 26.
