The Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) is rallying Ghanaians to embark on a three-day picketing against the increase in fuel prices.

According to AFAG, 'All political pressure groups and civil societies' must 'join forces in organizing a 3 day picketing anytime appropriate dubbed “kumepreko” ostensibly to press home for an improved economic living condition for the Ghanaian.'

AFAG said: 'We are shocked at the unconscionable attitude of the National Petroleum Authority and the NDC government in the midst of Ghana’s worst economic performance under John Mahama.

'AFAG considers the recent increase in fuel prices as unrealistic and politically incorrect. In the wake of the current precarious and deplorable economic situation of the Ghanaian, it makes no sense to further impoverish the people of Ghana with excessive taxation on goods and services. This is especially so, as the welfare system (school feeding program, capitation grant, LEAP etc.) is in limbo leaving no room for socioeconomic cushioning of the Ghanaian.

'This fuel price increase is no good news to businesses. It is a double jeopardy to businesses as it's already burdened with high capital expenditure on generator purchases, maintenance and operational cost vis-a-vis Dumsor.

'AFAG blames president Mahama for his poverty of understanding of economic management amidst large scale corruption rocking his administration leaving him to the harsh external dictates of the IMF. This fuel price increase is just the IMF unobtrusively in attendance.

'AFAG dreads how such economic practices can hurt the moral fabric of the country. Lately, robbery, prostitution, slum development, teenage pregnancy, institutional corruption has been on the ascendancy. It will be of great good to the Ghanaian if the president can attempt to sit up to work. There is too much hopeless in the system.'
