An Accra Magistrate Court has thrown out the bail application for all the six suspects accused of murdering two African Americans.

The bodies of the deceased persons - MamelinaDiop, 75, and Nzinga Jaana, 69 - were exhumed last week after they went missing at Akwamu in the Eastern region.

The six accused persons are Nana Appia-Nti III, a mechanic, Nana Obiri Yeboah, a farmer, Brenda Kareema Mohammed, a pensioner, Yazid Alazim Mohammed, a businessman, Mensah Kamaugogo Muata, a surgeon assistant and Anokye Yaw Frimpong, a driver.

Frimpong, according to the police, has confessed to murdering the two. They have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and murder.

The Case
The suspects were first arraigned in court on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 after the Akosombo police mounted a search for the two over their disappearance.

The United States Embassy in Ghana has expressed regret over the incident and promised to provide the necessary consular assistance to the families of the deceased.

“The U.S. Embassy in Ghana reports with deepest sympathy that two U.S. citizens have been killed in the Eastern Region of Ghana. We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victims.

"The U.S. Embassy in Ghana is in contact with family members and is providing appropriate consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, we have no further comment at this time,” portions of the statement said.

The Embassy also stated they had “confidence in the rule of law in Ghana” and urged persons with information regarding the offence to report it to the Ghana Police Service.

The case document submitted by the investigating officer David Dzokoto disclosed that the two who were pensioners from the American Civil Service were murdered over a 218.5 acres of land at Fiahankra near Akuamufie also in the Eastern region.
