WACA Development Partners Support Women in Upper West

Women in the Upper West Region of Ghana particularly Kperisi in the Wa Municipality and Tapko in the Nadowli/Kaleo District have received support from WACA, a Canadian based organization and its development partners.

The women who are mostly Shea Butter producers have received various support including capacity training workshops, Shea Butter processing and marketing, soap making inter alia, to help improve their living standards and the quality and marketability of their Shea products.

WACA, with the support of BARAKA Supplies has supported various women groups in the region over the years in income generating activities.

In an interview with the president of WACA, Prof. Wayne Dunn in Wa, he said, WACA and its development partners enjoy working with the women groups in order to assist them in their community and development priorities.

According to him, “we are a small business and our projects are also small but very meaningful. They do make a real difference for the families and communities and with all partners on board, we can support our business and the development of these communities directly”.

Madam Amina Yussif, a facilitator with the women groups expressed her joy with the support the women have been receiving from WACA. She revealed that, WACA and its development partners including BARAKA Supplies were helping them with the organic certification of their Shea products as well as providing them with market in the US and Canada.

She thanked the development partners for their continuous support to the women, adding that, it will go a long way to improve not only their livelihoods but also the standards of living of their families.
