Living Light Today: Wait On The Lord

Wait on the Lord. Be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the Lord. Psalm 27:14

There is a strong difference between “wait on” and “wait for”. When you wait on, you are actively engaged with who or what you are waiting on. Waiting on God entails your active participation in the process for your desires. Waiting on God is not an idle stay for an expected end. It is an active engagement for an expected end. In other words, he or she who waits on has a deep role to play in the fulfillment of a waiting process.

But on the other hand, waiting for is a non-interactive, non-participatory and anxiety ridden waiting for a course or a purpose. When you wait for; there is no engagement between the two parties – the one waiting, and the one or thing waited for. Waiting for a thing or a person may be useful on the ordinary things of everyday life but in the affairs of faith and relationship with God, waiting for God can be frustrating and directionless. In fact it may be a ticket for destruction; for my people perish for lack of knowledge. You need the knowledge of God’s Word to wait; you need confident belief on God to wait.

Dearly beloved, waiting is a process that involves faith, time, energy, knowledge, obedience, patience, and joyful engagements. It is a process that begins with a purpose and ends with a result. So the waiting time is the time frame between the purpose conception and the purpose delivery. Waiting could be for anything. It could be for a need, a vision, an appointment, an inquiry etc whatever it is, everything in life has a waiting period, and it may be too short that we do not notice it. Waiting is by nature intertwined with every process. For food to be prepared, there is a waiting time, for a baby to be born, there is a nine months waiting. For an academic success to be made there is an engaging process of waiting. For your faith to grow there must be an engaging process of waiting nothing really good happens without an engaging process of waiting.

Waiting on God is an engagement of growth, fruitfulness and praise; it is not an idle sitting, agonizing expectations or hopeless despair. When you wait you wait with faith. And faith is never an idle sitter; rather faith actively works the works of God. The content of faith for waiting is the word of God and the works director of faith is the Holy Ghost. When you do faith type of waiting on God, you are productively busy that you have no space for despair and grumbling; rather you will be full of joyful expectations and praises. Don’t forget; your daily learning, talking and thinking form your beliefs and your belief is the power that activates what you wait for to come to pass, so ensure that the things you deeply believe are in agreement with the things you wait on.

The truth is that every believer is actually waiting on God. We have our common areas where we wait on God and our individual areas that concern us in particular. Waiting is not an act of desperation, but a process of learning and growth. When a child is born, he or she has no other choice than to wait on the process of his or her adulthood; in that process he or she learns and grows. The fact of time itself is an indication of the reality and centrality of waiting in our different processes of life and growth.

You can’t and nobody can run away from the reality of waiting. Take your own moments of waiting with joy and readiness to get engaged with the details of your waiting; seek knowledge and understanding in your particular area of waiting. Ensure that you are not just waiting for but that you are waiting on God who will strengthen your heart and give you the desires of your heart. Learn, obey, enjoy and grow in your waiting in Jesus name. Halleluiah!
